On 19-th and 20-th of November 2013, in Royal Hall in Sheraton Hotel, Sofia, for 15-th year running was celebrated the World GIS Day in Bulgaria. Тhe events connected with the celebrations were organized by ESRI Bulgaria. The GIS Day was celebrated with a User Conference "GIS in Action", an Exhibition-Map Competition and an Official cocktail.

The GIS Day in Bulgaria aims to promote Geospatial technologies, to enable businesses, public administration and education to meet, to exchange experience and share achievements and vision for the development of GIS in the country.

At the User Conference "GIS in Action" were reviewed and discussed the tendencies in the development of GIS technologies, the new revolutionary abilities of functionality of the ESRI GIS platform, good practices in the world and successful GIS projects in various fields, perspectives and insights of leading experts. ESRI Bulgaria awarded prizes for completed strategic projects in the field of Geographic  Information Systems in 2013. GIS - Sofia Ltd. was also awarded the prize in the category of successful GIS projects within local authorities for applying an innovative GIS approach in the development of an Ortophotoatlas of Sofia Municipality. The award was accepted by Mrs. Emilia Angelova, deputy-manager and Mr. Stefan Georgiev, head of the Cartography Department. In this category a prize was also awarded to Mrs. Tanya Hristova, Mayor of Gabrovo Municipality, for applying an innovative GIS approach for sustainable development of GIS in support of activities in the municipality of Gabrovo. The awards were presented by Mrs. Eugenia Kardzhova, manager of ESRI Bulgaria and Mr. Blagoj Stanchev, Parliamentary Secretary of the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria.

The celebration of the World GIS Day in Bulgaria and the awards ceremony were held under the patronage of Mrs. Daniela Bobeva, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria.
